New Orleans avoids further restrictions with improving coronavirus data
New Orleans has had fewer than five percent of its coronavirus tests over the past seven days come back positive -- that's good news, because it avoids triggering a state-mandated shutdown of indoor bar service. Mayor LaToya Cantrell also said it shows the people of New Orleans are taking things seriously.
"That's trending in the right direction," Cantrell said. "We didn't get here alone, meaning that people continue to demonstrate civic trust, but also demonstrate a higher level of personal responsibility."
The mayor urged New Orleans residents to keep it up.
"Where we go is all contingent upon how we act," said Cantrell. "So I encourage you, again, to do the right thing. It's just that simple."
Although it's a decrease from the previous week, Cantrell said the numbers are still high for New Orleans, and she like to see those numbers go lower, like they were six weeks ago.
