It was around 8:30 p.m. Friday when two individuals got out of a vehicle in the 3800 block of Canal St. and began shooting at Hilbert Walker III, a server at Mandina's. just outside the restaurant. Walker was killed in the gunfire, and a woman inside the restaurant was injured.
The restaurant was packed with diners, many of whom had just enjoyed the first day of Jazz Fest. The woman who was injured was visiting from Chicago for the festival.
The restaurant closed for the weekend, reopening midday on Monday.
