When ordering a McFlurry at McDonald’s, you’re not alone if you ever thought the spoon was a straw.

McDonald’s is now apologizing for the spoon’s quirky design, which includes a square, hollow end, but does not allow food lovers to use it like a straw.

On May 4, the fast-food chain will be giving away one free Caramel Brownie McFlurry to any person who has mistaken the spoon for a straw, according to Fox News.

McDonald’s announced the promotion by adding a hilarious video of people reacting to news that it was a spoon and not a straw.

“While we can’t change the iconic hollow spoon (a key piece of the mixing process), we can help ease the sting of your facepalm upon figuring out how to use it,” the company wrote in a statement.

Customers who are willing to say that they fell for the trick can redeem the one-day offer through the McDonald’s app when they visit a location that is participating in the deal.

Through the app, a code will be available to scan. Fast food lovers will not need to purchase anything to enjoy their free McFlurry.

“Alternatively, customers who aren’t able to leave their house or workplace to grab a bite to eat can get a free Caramel Brownie McFlurry if they order at least $15 worth of food through the chain’s delivery partner, McDelivery with Uber Eats, from May 3 to May 9. All the McFlurries that will be given away will be a “regular size,” McDonald’s confirmed.

In April, McDonald’s announced the addition of the Caramel Brownie McFlurry.

The twist on the popular dessert features McDonald’s signature vanilla soft serve blended with rich, chocolate brownie pieces and caramel topping.
