New poll: Kamala Harris is crushing Donald Trump with Gen Z
While former President Donald Trump may hold an overall lead on Vice President Kamala Harris, a new poll has found that the presumed Democratic nominee is further ahead with younger Americans.
The poll from Axios/Generation Lab has found that in a head-to-head matchup among voters ages 18 to 34, Harris leads Trump 60% to 40%.
The response from Gen Z voters and younger millennials shows the growing support for Harris, who gained more support than President Joe Biden.
When asked to choose between Biden and Trump, 53% of the demographic chose the president, and 47% chose Trump.
The poll was conducted between July 22 and July 24, a day after President Biden announced he was withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race and publicly endorsed Harris to be the Democratic nominee.
Participants in the poll were asked to rate Harris, Biden, and Trump on a scale of favorability, and Harris came out on top (45%), followed by Trump (34%) and Biden (33%). Trump also had the highest percentage of respondents finding him “extremely unfavorable” at 42%.
Since announcing her intentions to “earn and win” the Democratic nominee, her campaign has been working on overdrive.
The vice president set a fundraising record, bringing in $200 million within the first week of her running for office, amassing over 1 million followers on TikTok just hours after posting her first video, and dominating headlines.
One question many still have about Harris’s White House bid is who she will choose to be her running mate.
When asked who they would want, 38% of young respondents said they were unsure, and 14% chose U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Other names to gain support included Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.
