A Michigan 10-year-old boy was suspended from his elementary school, and then charged with aggravated assault, for throwing a ball that hit and injured a 7-year-old classmate during a game students were playing at recess.

According to NBC News, the incident happened in April when students at Eriksson Elementary School in Canton Township, Michigan, were playing a game similar to dodgeball called tips.

Carmeishi Triplett Lindley, the mother of accused boy, said in an interview that the ball thrown by her son, Bryce, hit another boy in the face and allegedly resulted in the boy suffering from a black eye and bruised nose.

The injured boy's mother said he has a medical condition that makes head injuries especially dangerous.

The mother said that her son had been hit twice before in the face with a ball and the incident in April was the final straw and had serious concern for her son's safety.

Carmeishi started a fundraiser on Facebook to cover the legal fees stating, "On 4/30/19, Bryce was suspended from Plymouth/Canton schools, Erikkson Elementary, for throwing a ball back at a student during recess, while playing a game called TIPS/ DODGEBALL. The ball that Bryce threw “allegedly” resulted in the other student having a concussion. After meeting with the Principal about why Bryce was suspended while the other students who fully participated in this game were not, the Principal disclosed that the injured student has a pre-existing condition, “Chronic brain stem infliction...” Clearly, this student should not have been playing a physical contact sport. This students mother is also a teacher in the local area. Today, I was put on notice that Bryce, a 10-year old, my son, is being charged with aggravated assault in the 3rd Circuit Juvenile Court in Detroit, Michigan. I’m just as shocked as those of you reading our story. Nonetheless, I am asking for your assistance in securing a Lawyer for Bryce. He is scheduled to appear next week in court on 8/1. The Attorney fees are $4,000. Thank each of you for your help and prayers."

As of right now, Carmeishi's fundraiser has surpassed her goal of $4,000 reaching $15,374!

There is also an overwhelming amount of support for Carmeishi and Bryce via social media.

Carmeishi and Bryce will make their first court appearance on Thursday, August 1st.
