Now we know why Idris Elba couldn't be the next James Bond.. Apparently, the franchise was looking for a woman.
It was confirmed Sunday that British star Lashana Lynch will become the next Agent 007!
Please note – the new character is NOT the next Bond. She'll just be taking over the secret agent number of the Daniel Craig incarnation of Bond when he leaves M16.
According to a movie insider, the 25th installment begins with Bond retired in Jamaica. Spymaster M, played by Ralph Fiennes, calls him back in desperation to tackle a new global crisis. "There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says 'Come in 007,' and in walks Lashana who is Black, beautiful, and a woman." He's attracted to her, but she turns him down.. at least in the beginning.
We have Phoebe Waller-Bridge to thank for this change.. Apparently, the TV writer was recruited to modernize the 57-year-old franchise.
One other change is that Bond girls will now be referred to as Bond women.
The film is currently being shot in Italy and the UK. It's set to hit theaters on April 8, 2020!
