There’s no denying Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers is an animal lover.
In fact, Dan and his wife Abbey have four dogs of their own and have worked with Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue in Nashville for years, helping other homeless pups get placed.
Dan told “People”, he and Abbey have fostered “probably 30 or 40 dogs and gotten them forever homes,” although he admits, “it’s always tough to let them go.”
All of the couple’s four dogs are rescues, and they certainly get treated well. Dan was quoted saying, “We treat them probably better than most humans get treated. They live a pretty good life and they are very, very goofy. All of them, they have their own interesting quirks and we love them for it.”
The dogs, Chief, Macaroni (aka Mac), Joy and Ghost, are also well traveled, since they go on the road with Dan + Shay. “Yeah, these are road dogs. They’ve probably been to more states than most people have. They are the life of the party on the road.”
