It's alligator hunting season in Georgia!
The season runs through early October, requiring a special permit and allows hunters to bag just one animal.. Well that was MORE than enough for a group of hunters over Labor Day weekend.
On Lake Eufaula, nearly 200 miles southwest of Atlanta, Derrick Snelson and his crew catch a 14-foot long alligator weighing 700 pounds!
OH MY GATOR!It took Derrick and his crew five hours to bring in the monster, including his fifteen-year-old daughter who went alligator hunting for the first time! This was only Derrick's second time hunting!
The Snelsons skinned the animal for the meat and will have the rest of the gator mounted, although they joke they may have to build a bigger house for it to fit.
The 700-pound alligator is believed to be the largest ever caught in the state, but it isn't confirmed just yet.
