The 2020 CMT Music Awards are happening tonight and the network just announced that Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles will be receiving a very special honor!
The singer is set to receive the first ever Equal Play Award, celebrating Jennifer for being an outspoken advocate for women in country music.
"As a proud part of the beautiful legacy of women in country music, I am honored to be the first recipient", Jennifer shares. "I look forward to celebrating the contributions of women, and all marginalized communities, within the country music format, and I am motivated in encouraging the non-artists, executives and investors in the industry, to do the same. There is much work still to be done."
Tonight's telecast will feature a three-minute tribute video to Jennifer, featuring appearances by such female artists as Sheryl Crow, Tanya Tucker, Maren Morris, Cam, Kelsea Ballerini and more.
