In case you missed the story that started to go viral last week, a local boy from Lower Burrell tried taking his own life because of bullying.

9-year-old Nico Pampena was being ridiculed and bullied so badly because of his disabilities by several kids that he wanted to commit suicide.

Luckily, his family and the town got behind him and gave him the support that he needed to get through this difficult time, including the city of Lower Burrell declaring him mayor for the day on May 4th.

Lower Burrell's Mayor Rich Callender wanted it to be known that the community was there to show support for Nico and was quoted saying, “It was nice to see everybody come together, officials, state officials and county officials to recognize this is a problem we have in our communities and that we can address it.”

Mayor Nico checked out the Mayor’s Office, police station and fire equipment during his day-long term as mayor of Lower Burrell, and of course got ALL the ice cream he deserved!

You can listen to everything Nico and his Mom Amanda had to say to Kristen & Cowboy right here.

What an awesome kid!

Thanks to Nico, May 4th won't just be "May The Fourth Be With You - Star Wars Day", it will also be known as Anti-Bullying Day in the city. It was proclaimed as such by the state House of Representatives and Westmoreland County.

Don't let anyone hold you back Nico! We've all got your back!
