U-Haul Will No Longer Hire Smokers In 21 States

With the new year comes new health resolutions..

.. And U-Haul is doing just that by taking a stand on smokers and nicotine users.

The moving and storage rental company announced that Thursday that effective February 1st in 21 states, including Pennsylvania, it will no longer hire nicotine users.

The chief of staff, Jessica Lopez, said in a press release, “We are deeply invested in the well-being of our Team Members. Nicotine products are addictive and pose a variety of serious health risks. This policy is a responsible step in fostering a culture of wellness at U-Haul, with the goal of helping our Team Members on their health journey.”

The nicotine-free policy will be in place in the following states - Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.

Employees hired before that date will be unaffected by the new policy.
