Are you more of a dog person or cat person? A recent survey from Porch.com found Americans are more than twice as likely to be DOG people. 49% said dogs . . . 21% said cats . . . and around 25% said they like both equally.
But a new study looked into pet adoptions during the pandemic. And we actually adopted CATS at a slightly higher rate last year.
Researchers looked at pet adoption rates in all 50 states, and broke it down by preference. 55% of the cats put up for adoption last year got adopted, compared to 54% of dogs.
The state with the highest rate for dogs was Connecticut . . . and for cats, it's New Hampshire.
The five highest-ranking states for dogs were: Connecticut . . . Rhode Island . . . ILLINOIS . . . South Dakota . . . and Delaware. And the top five for cats were: New Hampshire . . . Rhode Island . . . Vermont .
. . Maine . . . and Massachusetts.
Connecticut was #1 overall, adopting 89% of the pets put up for adoption last year. And New Mexico ranked last at 39%.
The survey also found owning a dog is a lot more expensive: Dog owners spend $514 more on their pet each year than cat owners do.
