She recently performed “My Head & My Heart” on Good Morning America, and feels “blessed to be doing this from home.”

Quarantining during the pandemic has allowed her to learn more about herself, like her love of traveling, and that she is definitely not a homebody. She adds she’s “excited that the world is slowly getting back to normal.”

Ava Max stans rejoice! She reveals she is actively back in the studio and “really excited about this next chapter.” We will have to wait until things are a bit more ‘back to normal’ though before we get any newer music. “Once everyone is out of quarantine, that’s when I’m going to release even more things and bops.” She mentions she doesn’t feel that much pressure to follow up her debut album, Kings & Queens, because for her, “if I can do it during a pandemic, I’ll have more excitement for it [once the world opens back up].”

But, what is Ava Max most excited about and looking forward to post-pandemic? “I’m going to travel, I’m going to see my fans, and that’s all it’s about…performing.” “I don’t really think about releasing a song and ‘oh, is it going to be successful,’ I think, ‘OMG I can’t wait to perform that song, I can’t wait to see my fans sing the lyrics.’” She is “just really excited for this next phase.”

Also while in quarantine, she, like many of us, got the chance to watch Framing Britney Spears – the documentary following Spears’ rocky career and shedding light specifically on her conservatorship battle with her father, who believes he should control her life. “That documentary made me sad” Max says, opening up on the misogynistic culture, “back then I feel like…people let it slide when people spoke to women a certain way about their bodies and, I think now, thank God people have changed a bit…you can’t really do that anymore without being yelled at.”

To protect herself against instances like this, she explains, “I surround myself with really amazing people, I think that’s super important” She also alludes to being a product of your environment, saying that you will become like who you decide to be around. “I surround myself with really genuine, down to earth people and that’s super important.” “My family keeps me humble.” She emphasizes that surrounding yourself with good people is “number one.”

She also gives advice on dealing with online comments “you’ve got to be strong.” “I know my self-worth.” You shouldn’t take them too seriously, because “the mean people who talk crap…probably have something going on in their lives,” so just take any comments with a grain of salt.

Ava Max continues, opening up on her writing process. “I know exactly what I want to write about” when she walks into the studio to record her music, she says. “Everything that I’m experiencing right now, you are all going to hear…and I’m experiencing a lot right now.” She notes that it’s also going to be really fun dance music as well, “I love making people dance.”

There are no ‘studio must-haves’ for her, but rather says that she simply goes into the studio with her heart and “just spills it all out.” There is apparently so much music swirling around that she feels “like a witch brewing her potions right now.”

How does she decide what makes the album? She’s “all about themes and story lines, so whatever the album it, it has to go with that.” If a song doesn’t fit that, Ava “just doesn’t put it on there.”

She says she has to “live through” her music. “Last year, I did not have anything to write about. It was the weirdest thing, nothing was coming out.” For her, art truly imitates her life. “It’s literally what I’m going through.” There is no exact timeline for her future releases, but know that the ‘potions’ are ‘brewing.’
