MELVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Bronx mother was charged with manslaughter in the death of her 7-year-old daughter, who was found unresponsive in a Long Island hotel pool and spent more than a year in a coma, police said Tuesday.

Police said Erica Baez, 41, left her daughter Katlyn Pineda unattended in the pool at the Melville Marriott Hotel on Jan. 13, 2022.

A family member found Katlyn unresponsive around 4:50 p.m. She was rushed to Plainview Hospital in critical condition and then to Cohen Children's Medical Center in Queens.

She remained in a coma until she died on May 1, Suffolk County police said.

Following an investigation, Baez was arrested Monday night in Manhattan, police said.

Baez has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child.

She was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and was slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
