Dead man found on NJ Transit light rail tracks in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A man was found dead on a New Jersey Transit railroad in Jersey City overnight Thursday, but it is unclear if he was dead before he was struck by a light rail train.

The unidentified man was hit by a NJ Transit train on the Hudson-Bergen light rail line around 2 a.m. at the Washington Street and First Street crossing, NJ Transit spokesperson Everett Merrill told NJ.com.

"It has not been determined if the cause of death was the result of the train strike," Merrill said as of Thursday morning.

The spokesperson added that NJ Transit police were investigating the incident.
