WESTHAMPTON, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Police on Long Island have launched an investigation after graffiti threatening to shoot police and their wives was discovered on several streets late last month.
The incident was reported to authorities around 9 a.m. on Jan. 27 after someone noticed the graffiti on several Westhampton roads.
Police believe the vandalism occurred the day prior.
The words "COPS WILL B SHOT", "WHBPD=DEATH", and "POOR>RICH" were found written in black spray paint on the sidewalk along South Road near Beaver Dam Creek.
Additionally, "COPS WIVES GET SHOT 2" and "SHOOT COPS 4 FUN" was found spray painted on the center yellow lines of Baycrest Avenue near Bishop Avenue.

Meanwhile, the Westhampton Beach Police Department on Thursday also announced the arrest of a man who allegedly made threats against officers.
Southampton Town Police received a phone call, which was intended for the Westhampton Beach Police Department, on Tuesday afternoon from a man who authorities said "was agitated and made a threat of violence against Westhampton Beach Police."
The incident prompted the evacuation of Westhampton Beach Village Hall, which houses the police department.
Police said 63-year-old David Krouse was later arrested following an investigation and charged with making a terroristic threat.
It's unclear if the two incidents are related.
