Homeless man killed by 2 hit-and-run drivers who struck him on LI highway

SHIRLEY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for two drivers who fled after hitting the same homeless man on Montauk Highway in Shirley Tuesday night.

David Arnold, 48, was walking across Montauk Highway near Grand Avenue when an SUV traveling westbound hit him and sped off around 11:40 p.m., according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

After the initial crash, the victim was run over by a sedan that also fled the scene, officials said.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to Stony Brook University Hospital via medevac helicopter. He was pronounced dead while on the helicopter.
