
MEDFORD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Suffolk County police officers shot a man after he allegedly stabbed two cops on Wednesday, according to the department.
Law enforcement was responding to reports of an altercation between two people on Birchwood Road in Medford around 5 p.m., officials said.
Police reportedly opened fire on one of the men after he allegedly stabbed two SCPD officers.
One of the injured officers was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via helicopter. Another was brought by ambulance.
A third officer was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries that authorities did not specify the nature of.
The Suffolk County homicide squad is investigating the incident. The New York State Attorney General’s Office usually investigates police shootings as well, though the agency has not yet announced its intention to do so.
