
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Six people were arrested and $8,000 in illegal fireworks were seized amid a citywide crackdown ahead of the Fourth of July, authorities said this weekend.
The NYC Fireworks Task Force arrested three men for allegedly possessing $3,900 in illegal fireworks.
The trio was charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful dealing of fireworks, the FDNY said.
Three other people were arrested Saturday for having $4,100 worth of illegal fireworks, according to the NYC Sheriff.
They were charged with reckless endangerment and possession of illegal fireworks.
Four people were arrested last weekend in a fireworks bust. The three men and a woman allegedly had $8,400 worth of fireworks.
Earlier this month, Mayor Bill de Blasio said authorities would be cracking down on illegal fireworks coming into the city.
A 32-person task force targeting illegal fireworks is made up of members of the NYC Sheriff, NYPD and FDNY, with help from federal law enforcement.
Complaints about illegal fireworks were up 320% in the first three weeks of June 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, according to WABC.
