The boy was a passenger on the gas-powered scooter driven by his 32-year-old mom when the vehicle struck a Ford Escape that was backing out of a driveway in Crown Heights.

The mom was driving the scooter eastbound on Dean Street, between Albany and Troy avenues, when the driver of the Ford backed out of the driveway of a home around 6:25 p.m.

The scooter struck the driver’s side, rear corner of the SUV, ejecting both the mom and son from the scooter. Neither of them was wearing a helmet at the time, police said.

The mom and son were thrown onto the roadway, where the mom suffered head trauma and the boy suffered scratches to his face.

Both of them were transported to Interfaith Medical Center, where the mom was pronounced dead and her son was in stable condition.

The mom was later identified as Winter King, whose listed address was less than a block away from the crash scene.

A 43-year-old man behind the wheel of the Ford remained at the scene and was not injured.

Police said an investigation into the crash is ongoing. No arrests have been reported.
