NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 35-year-old man was indicted for fatally stabbing a man in the chest last month during an argument over a cigarette, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced on Thursday.

John Wright was walking through Midtown on Dec. 6, when 24-year-old Carlos Rosario asked his girlfriend for a cigarette, according to prosecutors.

An ensuing argument between Rosario and the group Wright was walking with escalated to the point where Wright and two others started beating Rosario, officials claim.

Wright allegedly stabbed Rosario once in the chest with a knife, killing him.

He was arrested two weeks later in the Bronx.

“Mr. Rosario’s life was brought to a violent end when he was stabbed following a dispute that started over a cigarette,” said Bragg. “Today’s indictment demonstrates we will not accept this violence, and my thoughts are with those grieving Mr. Rosario’s loss.”

Wright was indicted on one count of murder for the attack.
