NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was robbed after he stopped to help a thief posing as a stranded motorist in Queens, police said Friday.

The NYPD released images of the suspect and the black Hyundai SUV he allegedly fled in after the roadside mugging in Woodside last Tuesday.

The victim, 25, pulled over to assist the apparent stranded driver at Northern Boulevard and 62nd Street around 12:45 p.m.

That's when the crook shed his ruse, demanding money and threatening to hurt him, police said.

The good Samaritan handed over cash to the man, who fled in the Hyundai towards the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Cops believe he's in his early 40s.

The victim was not injured in the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
