Homeless man arrested after fatally shooting woman he was staying with in Queens: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials arrested a homeless man who they said fatally shot a woman in Queens on Monday morning, according to authorities.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a woman shot in the vicinity of 109th Avenue and 120th Street in South Ozone Park.

Upon arrival, officers observed 24-year-old Sydney Lugo with a gunshot wound to her left arm.

EMS transported Lugo to Jamaica Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police arrested 34-year-old Tariak Stykes, who is homeless, the NYPD said.

He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon

According to the Daily News, Lugo lived steps away from where the shooting happened and was letting Stykes stay at her apartment.

Stykes shot Lugo after the two had a dispute over finances just steps from their building, police said.
