NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of a father who was gunned down in front of his 10-year-old daughter at an Upper Manhattan bodega last week.
Joseph Morros, 27, was arrested Monday evening and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said Thursday.
He’s suspected of killing Tykeem Berry, 30, at the 144 Deli Grocery at Nagel Avenue and Thayer Street in Inwood on the afternoon of Dec. 15.
Berry had stopped by the bodega to pick up a snack for his daughter when he confronted Morros for staring at him, according to police.
Surveillance video from inside the bodega shows a man in a green North Face jacket, believed to be Morros, shouting at Berry, who follows him outside. When Berry reenters the store, the gunman also returns and pulls the trigger.
Berry was shot in the chest, police said. He stumbled outside and was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.
His daughter wasn’t physically injured in the shooting. Berry also leaves behind an 8-year-old son, his family told the Daily News.
Sources told 1010 WINS last week that police believe the two men were known to each other.
NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said Morros has 10 prior arrests, including two for weapons possession.
