NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man died 10 days after he was struck by an alleged drunk driver in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.

Just before 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, Tanaisa Canhigh, 29, was traveling westbound on Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant when her 2021 Ford Escape collided with Jamel Finney, 48, just west of Franklin Avenue, police said.

Finney was attempting to cross Fulton Street mid-block and outside of any marked crosswalk when he was struck and knocked to the ground, police said.

Upon arrival, officers observed Finney lying on the roadway with head and body trauma.

EMS transported Finney to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he died on Saturday, October 29.

Canhigh remained on the scene, and was taken into custody. She was charged with vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated, police said.
