The NYPD released surveillance images Thursday showing the suspect at 41st Avenue and 21st Street in Long Island City.

The attack unfolded several blocks away at the Court Square–23rd Street station around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said a 54-year-old man saw the suspect punching another man on the platform for the E train and tried to intervene.

Instead of backing down, the attacker set his sights on the good Samaritan, who he headbutted and whacked in the neck with a hockey stick, police said.

The good Samaritan was taken to Mount Sinai Queens with non-life-threatening injuries.

It’s unclear what happened to the other man who was being beaten.

The assailant fled the station on foot and was still being sought Thursday. Police believe he’s about 30 years old.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
