NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was seriously injured in a machete attack on a Bronx street, police said Monday as they released images of a suspect.

The 22-year-old victim was assaulted with the machete in Fordham Heights on the night of July 4.

He was at East 180th Street and Valentine Avenue just before 11 p.m. when a man came up and whacked him in the head and right hand with the machete, police said.

It's unclear if the attack was the result of a dispute or completely unprovoked.

The victim was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition with gashes.
