NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Brooklyn man has been indicted for allegedly sex trafficking, assaulting a 19-year-old woman and torturing a 40-year-old woman.
Samuel Tucker, 39, was arraigned on Friday on charges of sex trafficking, promoting prostitution, assault and coercion, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Monday.
"This defendant’s allegedly violent and exploitative abuse of women for profit shocks the conscience," Gonzalez said in a statement.
According to the investigation, the victim was living in a homeless shelter in Brownsville when she was introduced to Tucker, who allegedly enticed her with promises of cash and drugs if she would engage in prostitution for him.
She moved into his Crown Heights apartment, where she slept on an air mattress in the living room and allegedly engaged in prostitution in the bedroom with dates that Tucker arranged for her.
He also posted photos of her in a prostitution advertisement on OneBackpage.com, Gonzalez said.
Tucker allegedly instructed her how much to charge, but all the money she earned was immediately turned over to him.
On one occasion, he allegedly beat her with a can of corn in a sock, repeatedly hitting her around her body and causing bruises to her chest and back. In another case, he allegedly heated a spoon using the burners on the stove and then held it to her feet, burning her.
Prosecutors said Tucker hogtied and tortured a 40-year-old prostitution victim, placing her in a hotel room bathtub filled with scalding hot water and repeatedly holding her head beneath the water in front of the 19-year-old victim.
Tucker allegedly forced the 19-year-old victim to watch as he used a firearm to beat the 40-year-old victim in the head and body, then instructed her to clean and bandage the older woman's wounds.
The 19-year-old victim managed to escape on Jan. 18 and called police.
Tucker faces up to a 25-year prison sentence and sex offender status if convicted.
He is being held on $200,000 cash bail or $750,000 bond and is ordered to return to court on May 10.
