NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – NYC Pride on Tuesday announced its official theme for 2023, with less than three months to go until Pride Month kicks off in June.
This year's NYC Pride calendar will feature The Rally on Saturday, June 17, as well as the annual NYC Pride March, PrideFest and Pride Island on Sunday, June 25.
It will all be under the theme of “Strength in Solidarity,” which NYC Pride said aims to draw attention to the strength and tenacity of the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies against the backdrop of increased attacks against members of the community, particularly in the form of legislation and physical violence that specifically targets trans and BIPOC individuals.
The theme emphasizes the cultural significance of the LGBTQIA+ community within modern society, while also recognizing every individual’s uniqueness and their ability to exhibit significant force when acting as a cohesive unit, according to organizers.
“Many individuals within our community are recognized for their unyielding creativity and ingenuity, and when we blend the individual threads of our community with those of our allies, together we can see the magnificent tapestry our combined effort produces,” said NYC Pride Executive Director Sandra Pérez.
In 2022, 91% of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills failed to become laws, according to Pérez. Yet in 2023, lawmakers have introduced almost 400 bills restricting the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQIA+ community. This includes two in Connecticut and six in New Jersey.
Many of these bills specifically target trans people and their families.

“These attacks against our community require not only us but especially our allies to vocally and visibly reinforce commitments to embracing our individual talents, empowering our collaborations, fortifying our bonds, and joining as a cohesive community of LGBTQIA+ people and allies so we can persevere and thrive,” Pérez said.
André Thomas, NYC Pride co-chair, said this will mark the second year of fully in-person programming since the start of the pandemic. “NYC Pride is thrilled to convene again and to celebrate every facet of our vibrant community, both within New York City and beyond,” Thomas said.
