NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Queens man was sentenced Tuesday for fatally stabbing his wife and injuring his teenage daughter, District Attorney Melinda Katz announced.
The Fresh Meadows man, 60-year-old Jawad Hussain, pleaded guilty earlier this month to manslaughter and assault charges for the 2019 incident, officials said.
Hussain attacked his wife, Fatima Jawad, at the family home with multiple knives, stabbing her 46 times, court documents show.
The couple’s 18-year old daughter was stabbed in the right hand and right leg during the altercation before calling 911, officials said.
During the 911 call, Hussain grabbed the phone and told the operator, in short, he had trouble with his wife and just hurt her after their daughter told authorities her father stabbed her mother.
Hussian was standing outside of the apartment building with the victims holding two knives when police arrived, according to court documents.
Both mother and daughter were taken to a nearby hospital where Jawad later died from stab wounds to her lung, liver, large and small intestines and her daughter underwent surgery for her injuries followed by months of physical therapy.
“In pleading guilty, the defendant has now admitted to the stabbing rampage that killed his wife. This brutal outburst also injured his daughter,” DA Katz said. “A woman is dead and her family grieving and now defendant will be held accountable.”
Hussain was sentenced to 19 years in prison, followed by five years’ post release supervision.
