NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 28-year-old Queens man who slashed his 25-year-old girlfriend unprovoked was sentenced to 17 years in prison, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Monday.
The victim was sleeping at their sick daughter’s Jamaica Hospital bedside on Jan. 5, 2020 when she awoke to Alexander Fitzpatrick standing over her with a sharp object.
“I’m going to jail,” he said before slashing her face and arm.
The victim suffered deep wounds which required about 120 stitches.
“For brutally assaulting the mother of his baby daughter, this defendant has been sent to prison for a long time,” said Katz. “As I find myself often having to tell women, confronting the reality that someone you love is dangerous can be painful and especially difficult. It is absolutely necessary, however, in order to protect yourself and loved ones from serious physical and emotional harm.”
Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to first degree assault on Sept. 14.
