Queens subway rider punched in face while chasing thief who grabbed his backpack

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A subway rider was punched in the face as he chased after a robber who snatched his backpack at a station in Queens this week, police said.

The NYPD released video Friday of a suspect in Tuesday morning’s robbery at the 104th Street–Oxford Avenue station in Ozone Park.

The 63-year-old victim was on the mezzanine level of the station when a man grabbed his backpack and took off, police said.

The victim pursued the thief, who punched him in the face and fled.

The straphanger refused medical attention at the scene.

The backpack contained the victim’s medication, among other items, police said.
