NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was badly slashed on a subway train in Brooklyn early Thursday, but he’s still alive thanks to a quick-thinking officer who applied a tourniquet on him.
The 37-year-old man was riding a southbound A train when he got into dispute with two younger men, believed to be in their teens or 20s.
During the altercation, one of the men slashed him in the left leg, causing a life-threatening wound.
The two men fled the train at the Van Siclen Avenue station in East New York. The victim stayed on the train for one more stop and got off at the Shepherd Avenue station.

He was hemorrhaging badly, but an NYPD officer was able to stem the bleeding by applying a tourniquet to his leg, police said.
He was rushed in critical condition to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center.
He remained critical Thursday, but his condition was stabilized.
The two suspects remained at large Thursday. No further description or images of them has been released.
