
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man asked a woman for "a light" for his cigarette and then repeatedly punched her in an attempted robbery on the Upper West Side last weekend, police said Tuesday.
The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect as they continue to search for him in Saturday night's attack at Broadway and W. 79th Street.
The 42-year-old victim was approached by the man just after 11:30 p.m.
"Have a light?" the man asked her before sucker punching her in the face, police said.
He punched her in the face and arm "numerous times" and tried unsuccessfully to snatch her handbag, according to cops.
He then fled empty-handed eastbound on W. 79th Street.
The victim didn't require medical attention, police said.
