LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 44-year-old Dix Hills man was convicted of stabbing his 70-year-old uncle to death in 2018, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced Friday.
David Cahoon killed his uncle William Cahoon in December 2018 at the older man’s Levittown home.
Police went to William’s home on Jan. 4, 2019 for a wellness check after staff from a local restaurant he frequented didn’t see him for a month.
They found him dead in his bedroom with sixteen stab wounds to his head, neck and chest.
An investigation revealed he had been dead since Dec. 3, 2018. His nephew David was arrested in June, 2019.
David had stolen about $1,800 from William after the murder by forging a check in his uncle’s name.
“William Cahoon was a regular at the Milleridge Inn, and when he stopped coming into the restaurant for several weeks, staff knew something was wrong,” said Donnelly. “A wellness check revealed that William had been viciously stabbed repeatedly by his nephew, the defendant, who had also stolen $1800 from the man. David Cahoon’s greed gave way to extreme violence and now he will spend decades in prison paying for the life he took.”
The younger Cahoon was convicted of murder, possession of a forged instrument and grand larceny.
He faces 25 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced on July 7.
