SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey man was charged with animal cruelty this month for allegedly dragging his dog with his truck.

Neighbors in South Brunswick saw Thomas J. Williams just before 8:30 p.m. on April 7 dragging the dog behind his vehicle, MyCentralJersey.com reported Monday.

Detectives followed leads that led to NorthStar Veterinarian Hospital, where the dog was being treated, South Brunswick police said.

Investigators determined Williams tied the dog to his truck's tow hitch and drove down Henderson Road for about a half-mile until other motorists stopped him.

The dog suffered serious injuries to his legs and torso but is expected to recover, police said.

Williams is charged with third-degree animal cruelty.
