WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A Long Island man was charged with animal cruelty more than a year after he fatally pushed a dog down a flight of stairs at his home, Suffolk County police said Thursday.
Peter Minichello, of West Islip, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the incident from July 6, 2022.
Minichello, 21, allegedly pushed a 5-year-old Chihuahua mix down a staircase at his home.
An investigation "determined this action directly led to the death of the animal," according to police.
Further details about the incident weren't immediately released. Police said the dog belonged to a family member.
Minichello faces charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and third-degree criminal mischief.
He was released on a desk appearance ticket and is due back in court on Aug. 1.
