INWOOD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — An arsonist set a Long Island brokerage firm on fire, just days after his first attempt was unsuccessful, police said Thursday.

According to police, the suspect approached the Reliance Customers Brokerage at 102 West End Ave. in Inwood around 3:35 a.m. on Feb. 26.

He then took out an unmarked container on the west side of the building, emptied an unknown liquid onto the building and ignited it.

The man then fled on foot southbound on West End Avenue.

Police said the fire extinguished on its own a short time later, causing minor damage to the outside of the building.

The suspect returned to the scene on March 2 and re-set the fire, this time causing the building to be completely engulfed in flames.

The Inwood Fire Department responded and put the fire out. No injuries were reported at the scene in either blaze.

Anyone with information about either arson is asked to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
