Worker shot in chest during LI smoke shop robbery; suspect sought

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Police are searching for a man wanted for shooting a smoke shop employee during a robbery on Long Island over the weekend.

The incident started around 3:19 p.m. Sunday when the suspect walked in to Da Smoke Spot on Merrick Road in Oceanside and confronted a 26-year-old male employee.

Police said an argument ensued and the suspect then pulled out a handgun, firing two rounds.

The victim was struck once in the chest and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. He was recovering in the ICU after undergoing surgery to save a lung, News 12 Long Island reported.

The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. It's unclear whether the suspect took off with any proceeds.

He is described as a male, approximately 5'9" tall, with a light complexion. Police said the man was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a baseball hat and had a black mask covering his face. He was seen carrying a black and red duffle bag on his shoulder and a second black bag across his chest at the time of the incident.
