During the Mets’ 10-3 win over the Yankees on Friday night, Francisco Lindor soaked in the atmosphere and couldn’t help but look ahead to Saturday’s game at Citi Feld.
“The crowd was unbelievable today,” Lindor told MLB Network after Friday’s victory. “I told Javy [Baez] at second base, ‘I might cry [Saturday].’”

Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11, which the Mets will commemorate by wearing caps to honor first responders and throwback jerseys from the 2001 season, along with Bobby Valentine (along with Joe Torre) throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Lindor anticipates an emotional night at Citi Field, and while he wasn’t yet living in the United States at the time of the attacks, he knows there will be plenty of emotion involved in acknowledging the anniversary of one of the most tragic events in the country’s history.
“Think about this,” Lindor said. “Your wife goes to work and never comes back, or your brother goes to help someone and never comes back.”
With the Yankees in town, New York will be front and center to remember one of the saddest days in the city’s history, and as both teams were able to do 20 years ago, Saturday’s game can hopefully provide a sense of normalcy as the devastating events of 9/11 are remembered.
“There’s definitely gonna be a lot of emotions tomorrow and the rest of the weekend, especially playing the Yankees and the fans being out here,” Lindor said. “All I ask is for everyone out there to just put your arm around the person next to you and say ‘Together, we are even stronger.’ God is on our side.”
