A lot has been made of Atlanta Falcons’ Pro Bowl tight end Kyle Pitts’ comments after he told the Athletic “I do think we’re going to contend and be able to fight for the playoffs and maybe the Super Bowl. It’s a new year. I don’t think about the past and negative things.” Some people think Kyle Pitts is crazy for the comment he made, but Thursday Night on The Jon Chuckery Show Jon explained why he appreciates the young phenom’s comments.
The Atlanta Falcons had a very bad roster last year with guys like TJ Green and Steven Means getting valuable snaps a lot during the 2021-22 campaign, and still managed to earn seven wins and not mathematically be eliminated from playoff contention until Week 16 last year. Now, while the roster is a lot better the schedule is a lot harder, and the playoffs do seem like a pipe dream for the Falcons this year as of right now.
However, nobody knows the Atlanta Falcons better than Kyle Pitts and the Atlanta Falcons, so he’s seeing things the average person doesn’t get to see on a daily basis, he’s in the meetings, on the practice field, in the locker room, and honestly what else is the guy supposed to say?
You also have to think about the fact that we are just seeing the quote, and not hearing or seeing what question was asked. Jon Chuckery says “They’re supposed to think that they can do that. What the hell do you go out there and compete every day for? If you don’t think you can win every single week then what are you going out there and competing for?”
If you are an Atlanta Falcons fan you should want the guy who is arguably your best player saying what Kyle Pitts is saying. Jon says “Yes, the factual content of that statement is ridiculous, but that’s what you want your guys to say.” Jon also says “You don’t put quit on tape in the NFL. If you put quit on tape in the NFL you won’t play because they have to pay you in the NFL, and they’re not going to pay a quitter in the NFL, they’re not.”
A few weeks back Falcons wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus also went on the record saying he believed the Atlanta Falcons are a playoff team, and now after seeing what Kyle Pitts had to say I think it’s safe to say we don’t have any quitters on this Atlanta Falcons football team, and I think any fan of any sports team would want the players of that team to have the mindset that Olamide Zaccheaus and Kyle Pitts have instead of quitting just because everyone else thinks your team is going to suck.
