Atlanta Hawks coach Nate McMillan compares Cam Reddish to Paul George

Why Cam Reddish could be the second star the Hawks need to win a Championship

What do the Atlanta Hawks need to do to take the next step to not only make it to the NBA Finals, but bring home a championship to the city of Atlanta. Both Kayal and Douglas agreed that the Atlanta Hawks need a second star to go alongside Trae Young, but the guys don’t necessarily think the Hawks have to look externally to find him.

In Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals Trae Young was obviously just a shell of himself, dealing with a bone bruise in his heel. With other guys not able to get anything going, the Hawks went down 20 and the Hawks' season seemed to be over in the third quarter.

Now, we all know the Hawks did end up losing the game, but Cam Reddish basically single-handedly got the Hawks back in it, and kept the Hawks’ hopes alive a little while longer. Reddish ended the night with 21 points shooting 6 of 7 from behind the arc. After the game Nate McMillan compared young Cam Reddish to Paul George.

“I’ve really took to Cam when I first got here," said McMillan. "He was a kid that I talked to early, and was really wanting to coach him. I see a lot of Paul George in Cam, his length, his ability to defend, you know working on his offensive game.

"Tonight he shot the ball well, you know shooting the three as well as putting the ball on the floor, getting to the basket, the makeup is really similar."

This comparison made Nick think if the Hawks have a Paul George type of player in Cam Reddish then the Hawks might not need to make any major moves to get a Robin besides the Batman that is Trae Young when a young Robin is being groomed by Nate McMillan. Harry agrees with Nick basically saying that the potential is there, and Cam has just been dealing with injuries, so McMillan hasn’t been able to coach him up the way he has wanted to.

Atlanta's future is bright with their core of Young, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, De’Andre Hunter, and Reddish all under the age of 24. Also, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Clint Capela are only 28 and 27, respectively. So with a great young core if the Atlanta Hawks can find a way to keep them all, and If Cam Reddish really does have Paul George-caliber potential the Atlanta Hawks might not have to look externally to find Trae Young’s second option because he’s already in the building.
