Scouts and NFL fans watched in awe as Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt crushed their NFL combine workouts this past weekend. Georgia fans and Chuck Smith, who had a hand in training both prospects, weren’t surprised in the slightest after watching both players dominate opposing offenses en route to a national championship in 2021.
Tipping the scale at 341 pounds, Davis’ 40-yard dash clocked in at an unbelievable 4.78. Wyatt, weighing 304 pounds, was just a bit quicker at 4.77. Both continued to flash their athleticism throughout the position drills in Indianapolis, leading Smith to state his belief that Davis and Wyatt will hear their names called early in the first round of the NFL Draft.
“Jordan Davis was already in my top-10," Smith reminded Dukes & Bell on 92.9 The Game. "Falcons, you get him at eight and here were all the questions. Well, can he be a rusher? When you’re that fast and you've got that kind of movement in drills, you will become a pass rusher. Now, how great that is, I don’t know. Jordan Davis absolutely can be a productive pass-rusher in the NFL. Wyatt, here’s the thing that gives him so much value—he can give you reps at nose guard in a 3-4. He can play defensive end in the 4-3. He's a three-technique in the Falcons defense.
Smith, the former Falcon & pass-rush specialist, also shared that the two Bulldogs will enter the league with the right mindset having gone through the conditioning program at Georgia.
“I’ve been around these cats. Let me tell you what those cats are, they are some dawgs man. These dudes ain't no soft suckers that are coming to the league. Already, they’ve had hard practices. Both of them are top-15 NFL Draft picks whether they go there or not. They are surefire first-rounders along with the other guys. Their potential is out of the roof," Smith said.
Much has been made about the fact that the Falcons haven’t drafted a UGA player since 2011, so could this be the year that changes? The strength of the national championship squad in Athens was defense juxtaposed to the Falcons who finished 2021 with one of the worst defenses in the NFL. This was especially true in terms of getting to the quarterback as Atlanta had just 18 sacks on the year—the least in the NFL.

In addition to Davis and Wyatt, DE Travon Walker, LB Nakobe Dean and S Lewis Cine have also received buzz as potential first-round picks in April’s draft.
