Is Kirby Smart in danger of becoming 'Jim Harbaugh of the South?'

Nick Kayal explains how Kirby Smart and the Dawgs were disrespected in the latest coaches poll

Autumn is getting closer and as the weather cools the color of the leaves change and the kids go back to school. It only means one thing, College Football season is right around the corner.

Nick Kayal talked about the preseason coaches poll recently coming out, and more specifically the No. 5 spot where the Georgia Bulldogs currently find themselves in the ranking.

Now, for a lot of teams people would be excited and happy they are top five in the preseason rankings. But for the Georgia Bulldogs this season Kayal finds the No. 5 ranking “disrespectful,” and here’s why.

Shop for Georgia Bulldogs gear

First, foremost, and most importantly it’s disrespectful because not only do Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have their starting quarterback from last year returning, but it’s JT Daniels who turned the Bulldogs' season around after the Dawgs went through a bit of a quarterback carousel between D’Wan Mathis and Stenson Bennet while Daniels recovered from injury.

When Daniels made his Georgia debut he did not disappoint, and when he took over the reins he showed this Georgia offense and team as a legit contender with him at the helm. However, UGA with seven returning starters on offense and four on a defense led by Kirby Smart is only in the top five, and it makes no sense.

Justin Fields is in the NFL now and not Ohio State, sure the Sooners have Spencer Rattler coming back to Oklahoma but I think most would agree, besides college football coaches, that Georgia has the better overall team. The Georgia Bulldogs are being slept on and other than the season opener in Charlotte against Clemson, Kirby and the Dawgs have a fairly easy road to the SEC Championship game. And this is the year for them to put college football on notice.

“This is the year for Kirby," said Nick Kayal. "If Kirby doesn’t win it this year he’s Mark Richt 2.0, and he’s the Jim Harbaugh of the South.”

A lot of pressure is on Smart to at least get back to the College Football Playoff this year, and if he doesn’t he won’t be on the hot seat, but it might start to get warm, because if not now for Georgia...when?

At least Smart and the Dawgs are sort of being slept on when it comes to being championship contenders, and I'm sure he wouldn’t have it any other way.
