(610 Sports) – After helping the Kansas City Chiefs to their second Super Bowl win in the last four seasons, Eric Bieniemy is leaving Kansas City to become the new offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero is reporting that Bieniemy's agent has confirmed that his client agreed to a multiyear contract to become Washington's offensive coordinator and assistant head coach on Friday.

Bieniemy has spent the last five seasons as the Chiefs offensive coordinator, helping lead the team to five-straight AFC Championship games, three Super Bowl appearances and two Super Bowl titles. Despite the success, Bieniemy hasn't been able to break into the head coaching ranks, despite interviewing with several teams for the position.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday that Bieniemy might benefit from leaving the team and calling offensive plays elsewhere to increase his profile.

The Commanders were in the market for an offensive coordinator after firing Scott Turner in January. Washington finished 20th in the league in total yards and 24th in points scored this past season.

Though the Commanders are unsettled at the quarterback position, Bieniemy will have several talented skill position players on the roster to work with, including Terry McClaurin, Curtis Samuel and Jahan Dotson at wide receiver and Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson at running back.
