The Missouri Tigers Football team fell to the South Carolina Gamecocks by a score of 34-30 on Saturday night. The loss snapped a 5-game winning streak for the Tigers over the Gamecocks. Missouri rallied from a 21-6 deficit to take a 30-27 lead with 1:10 remaining in the game, however the Tigers defense was unable to keep the Gamecocks out of the endzone as they would score on a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback LaNorris Sellers to running back Raheim Sanders that would take the lead with just 15 seconds remaining in the game. Tigers quarterback Brady Cook had just thrown a clutch deep pass to wide receiver Luther Burden III on 4th down and 6 that scored a touchdown on the previous possession. This would likely have gone down as one of the more memorable plays in recent Tiger history had the defense been able preserve the lead. Brady Cook was a game-time decision as he was still nursing a hand-injury that forced him to miss last week’s game against Oklahoma. Cook played well in the game overall, throwing for 237 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. However, Missouri got off to another slow start offensively and only had 6 points at halftime. With the loss, Missouri drops to 7-3 on the season and any faint hopes of making the playoffs are now gone. Missouri will almost certainly fall from their no. 24 ranking in the college football playoff poll on Tuesday. However, Missouri still has a chance to win 10 games for the 8th time in school history and play in a significant bowl game against a quality opponent. Mizzou likely only has 3 more games to enjoy watching Cook and Burden in a Tiger uniform, as Cook is a graduating senior, and Burden is likely to enter the upcoming NFL draft and be a 1st round pick. These two players have played big roles in the Tigers becoming relevant again over the last few seasons and the final few games their careers should be celebrated. Missouri’s next game is at 3:15PM on Saturday against the 2-8 Mississippi State Bulldogs.
