Julia Roberts celebrated her 55th birthday this past Friday, and fans began resharing an interview Roberts had previously conducted with Gayle King, where she revealed the incredible circumstances surrounding her birth.

Roberts' parents, Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts, could not afford the hospital bill when she was born, but they received help from an incredibly unlike source: Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King.

Betty Lou and Walter ran a theater school in Atlanta called the Actors and Writers Workshop Roberts revealed.  One day, they received a call from Coretta Scott King asking if her kids could be part of the school because they could find no other place that would accept them.

According to Roberts, her mother told Coretta Scott, "Sure.  Come on over."

Thus sparked an incredible, and unbelievable friendship.

Per NBC DFW, Gayle King called the relationship between Roberts's parents and the Kings "extraordinary," and said the historical figures' act of kindness created a "groundwork" that helped shape Roberts.

Roberts responded, "Oh, absolutely."
