Details have been released after a plane crash in Western North Carolina that killed three people, last month. Among those who died in the crash was Grammy Award winning songwriter Brett James.

The National Transportation Safety Board or NTSB's report on the crash says the plane owned James left Tune Airport in Nashville September 18th and crashed near the airport in Franklin, North Carolina.

The plane was being flown by a private pilot. The report says the pilot radioed air traffic control at the Macon County Airport and told them he was going to do a three-hundred-and-sixty degree turn to land on the runway. Shortly after that air traffic controllers lost contact with the pilot.

The NTSB says video footage showed the plane descending during the turn, then spiraling and crashed to the ground. Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low over the playground of a nearby school before crashing.
