A postal worker was airlifted to a hospital after being attacked by a dog in the Midlands, last weekend. The Newberry County Sheriff's Office says a postal carrier was delivering a package at a home there, last Saturday.

The worker was then bitten by a pit bull and retreated back to their vehicle, but the dog followed and kept attacking. Officers from the Newberry Police Department arrived at the scene and pepper sprayed the dog.

EMS was called and the postal worker was airlifted to a hospital to be treated for injuries to their upper and lower body. The dog was then taken to the animal shelter.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster says as of right now, the dog's owner is not facing criminal charges, as local lease laws do not apply when a dog is on its home turf and not on public property.
