A college in the Upstate is being sued by the family of a man who was killed there last year. The suit comes after 48 year old Victor Roblero was fatally shot by a campus safety officer at Spartanburg Methodist College, on New Year's Day in 2024.

SLED says campus officer Michael McCrary stopped Roblero as he was driving the wrong way on campus. During the stop, Roblero started reaching the front seat of the vehicle.

McCrary suspected Roblero of driving under the influence and, when he tried to arrest him, a fight ensued. McCrary then shot Roblero during the fight. No criminal charges were filed from the incident.

The lawsuit names Spartanburg Methodist College, its campus safety department and Michael McCrary all as defendants, claiming they were negligent and reckless in the incident.

The family is seeking compensation for medical care, funeral services and other damages.
